The People Hostel

Staying in a hostel when we arrive in a new city can be quite an experience. For many, it’s simply the cheaper option, but we know that a hostel with a good vibe goes a long way, and it can definitely make the difference between a ‘meh’ and an amazing travel memory. So, we did our homework in the vibrant city of Marseille, France, and found one of the latter; a cool, affordable, full of art, events and, even a bar. Discover The People Hostel, Marseille.

When it comes to staying in a hostel, we all know that travel website scores and reviews can say a lot about a place. But word of mouth is an unbeatable filter. Well, in Marseille, we got the chance to see it live, and we can tell you, The People Hostel is exactly the kind of place you want to be staying in when visiting the city.

This French-owned hostel proposes a new kind of accommodation where everyone is invited. “Affordable and comfortable. You can share a dorm of 8, privatize a dorm of 4 with your friends, or come with your family and spend the night in one of our family rooms. Our guests really enjoy having a drink in our courtyard, where they can meet other guests or locals who come in for a happy hour in this secret spot!”, explains Davina Hammari, General Manager at The People Marseille.

And it’s true! We got the chance to experience the very affordable Happy Hour, just a few minute's walk from the touristy Vieux Port (Old Port, in English); next to the tram, metro and bus stop, making it so much easier to immerse yourself in the city of Marseille.

And a good accommodation location will definitely help when you start your day in this French city. “Marseille is full of history, you can have a walk in the Panier Area in the morning and visit the Calanques in the afternoon or take the boat to the Frioul. So many places to see, and many opportunities. Marseille is a wonderful place to visit as a backpacker”, adds the local, Davina Hammari.

A Place To Connect

But what happens outside these walls will go hand in hand with the experience of any guest of The People Marseille. According to Davina, what makes this hostel unique is exactly you, the travelers that come together in this place. “People make this place so special, you can meet people from all over the world. We love the atmosphere of our courtyard, with Grem’s design. Best place to connect”, she adds.

That’s exactly what we love about staying in a hostel, the chance to meet fellow travelers and Life Lovers with their fascinating stories and anecdotes. And, if we can chill after a day walking or hiking around Marseille, we get to have a nice chat, and we wouldn’t mind doing it while enjoying a cold beer.

But lucky for us! This bar is open not only for guests, so we can enjoy a local beer in the courtyard anytime between 7am and 11pm. “Also, everyone can try one of our signature cocktails made with Maison Ferroni alcohol, a local distributor. We are not just a bar, we tried to make a “living place”. A place where you can see an exhibition in the basement, have a yoga class, have a drawing class with our partner “Happy Paint” in the courtyard, or listen to a live music session”, adds the General Manager at The People Marseille.
