In Life Lovers' April issue, I revealed my personal odyssey with WILDFIT®, the program created by Eric Edmeades, that revolutionized my wife's and my bodies and lifestyles. As a certified WILDFIT coach, I'm now excited to introduce you to the transformative power of the WILDFIT approach, guiding you towards a healthier, more fulfilling life.

It's time to break free from the vicious cycle of guilt, frustration, and defeat, and welcome a renewed relationship with food and your body. Through the powerful WILDFIT methodology and understanding the 6 types of hunger that influence our food choices, we gained invaluable insight into our relationship with food, achieving lasting, long-term changes.

Discovering the WILDFIT approach

Like so many others, my own struggles with food and weight led me on a transformative journey of self-discovery and introduced me to WILDFIT—a 90-day program that revolutionized my understanding of nutrition by addressing the emotional and physical drivers of food cravings.

In April 2021, I lost 34 lbs (15.4 kg) within this life-changing 13-week experience, and I never looked back. Embracing the WILDFIT lifestyle, I discovered a newfound freedom, liberated from restrictive diets and calorie counting, and instead nourished my body and soul with wholesome, natural foods. This empowering program taught me to break free from my long-standing sugar addiction and replace unhealthy cravings with energizing, whole-food alternatives. As I continued on this path, I enjoyed revitalized energy levels, a positively responsive body, and even a revamped wardrobe to celebrate the remarkable changes in my physique.

After my transformation in 2021, which redefined my relationship with food and granted me a liberating sense of food freedom, I felt a compelling urge to share my insights with others. I wanted to help those who might be facing similar struggles, whether it be unhealthy eating patterns, sugar addiction, or emotional eating. I firmly believe that the right mindset, knowledge, and support can overcome any issue related to food and nutrition. Fuelled by this conviction, I took the initiative to become a WILDFIT coach—a decision driven not only by a desire to help others but also by a deep sense of gratitude for a program that had profoundly impacted my life. Through sharing my story, I aim to demonstrate that true transformation is within reach, regardless of how bleak one's situation may appear.

What are the 6 types of hunger?

At the heart of the WILDFIT program lies a deep understanding of the 6 types of hunger that influence our food choices: Nutritional Hunger, Thirst Hunger, Variety Hunger, Low-Blood Sugar Hunger, Emotional Hunger, and Empty Stomach Hunger. Each of these unique cravings can shape our eating habits and define our relationship with food. By recognizing and tackling these hungers, we can not only transform our eating habits but also unlock our full potential for health and wellness. It is crucial to differentiate between genuine hunger and urges that can lead to overeating or unhealthy food choices.

Nutritional Hunger, the only true form of hunger, represents our body's legitimate need for vital nutrients like protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. To satisfy this hunger, we should consume a diverse array of whole, nutritious foods that provide sustained energy and nourishment. I enjoy sipping on a nourishing green smoothie, filled with wholesome ingredients such as leafy greens, herbs, fruits, and vegetables that provide essential antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals—a delicious and healthy treat to myself.

On the other hand, Emotional Hunger, Thirst Hunger, Variety Hunger, Low-Blood Sugar Hunger, and Empty Stomach Hunger can be deceptive. Emotional Hunger drives us to indulge in comfort foods during stress or anxiety, while Thirst Hunger can be mistaken for real hunger, leading us to eat instead of hydrating when we haven't consumed enough water throughout the day. Variety Hunger misleads us to crave a wide range of foods and experiment with new flavours, while Low-Blood Sugar Hunger tempts us to seek quick energy sources like sugar or caffeine. Empty Stomach Hunger is a common trigger for overeating and can result in unhealthy food choices.

In WILDFIT, there's only one golden rule: never stay hungry. When we go too long without eating, our stomach becomes more flexible, which can lead to making unhealthy food decisions that hinder our progress. By understanding and addressing these types of hunger, we can liberate ourselves from the guilt and frustration associated with overeating and cultivate a healthier, happier relationship with food.

In addition to the 6 types of hunger, the WILDFIT program also emphasizes the importance of paying attention to our internal dialogue around food. This includes how we talk about our food, the emotions we attach to specific foods, and how those emotions can impact our eating habits. By becoming more aware of our emotional rollercoasters and how they impact our relationship with food, we can begin to make more conscious, mindful choices about what we eat and how we nourish our bodies.

The program offers a powerful, transformative approach to nutrition that goes beyond restrictive diets and calorie counting, as these methods can be unsustainable and ultimately lead to a negative relationship with food. Instead, the program focuses on guiding participants to listen to the body’s signals and consume whole, nutritious foods that satisfy their nutritional hunger. This approach underscores the importance of fostering sustainable lifestyle changes over quick fixes or fad diets.

What about the results?

This approach has been positively impacting people for many years. And, personally, I’ve had the chance to see several success stories develop after aligning their self-knowledge with understanding hunger and feeding their bodies in a nutritious and healthy way.

But don't just take my word for it. There are numerous testimonials from individuals who have completed the program and experienced genuine, lasting results. Here are a few testimonials from WILDFIT participants:

“WILDFIT has been an eye-opening experience, for not just myself, but for those around me, who have watched my progress in losing 25 lbs (11.3 kg) and 4 pants sizes in a matter of 3 months. I feel 10 years younger than I did in the previous year.” - Josh Finkelstein, USA.

“I spent years gaining weight, losing weight, drinking expensive juice, losing weight and then regaining it all again plus more. WILDFIT didn’t just show me how to release weight permanently, it showed me how to connect with my emotions and feel deep love for myself.” - Rayme Pasieka, Canada.

“As a medical doctor, I was still eating way too much non-functional foods, having too many destructive patterns of behaviour. I’ve seen how much damage we do to our mind-body when we don’t listen to it. WILDFIT was the final piece of the puzzle. I experienced no more food cravings, steady energy and improved sleep and mood. The acne and allergies were gone. My pain significantly reduced.” - Ju Lee Tay, Malaysia.

“I had a medical condition which is called Ménière's disease. It causes hearing loss and pressure in your ears, constant dizziness, and unpredictable vertigo attacks. I started WILDFIT and in 3 months I had no dizziness, the pressure in my ears was gone and I didn't have vertigo attacks any more. So WILDFIT just gave me my life back.” - Tim Mullet, United Kingdom.

It is worth noting that WILDFIT acknowledges the distinct challenges many women encounter concerning food and health. For instance, a healthy and balanced diet with an adequate intake of nutrients such as iron, calcium, and vitamins can contribute to a healthy and pain-free menstrual cycle. Additionally, avoiding excessive consumption of processed foods, caffeine, and alcohol can help alleviate symptoms associated with menstruation, such as cramping and bloating. WILDFIT offers strategies to mitigate these concerns, such as incorporating foods that support hormonal balance and providing tools for managing stress and anxiety.

One of the key factors that set WILDFIT apart from other nutrition programs is its emphasis on sustainability. Unlike crash diets or fad workout plans, WILDFIT is designed to create lasting changes in participants' lives. The program helps participants retrain their bodies to crave healthy, nourishing foods rather than processed junk. This, in turn, can lead to sustained weight loss, improved energy levels, and a greater sense of overall well-being.
